Can I Travel To Italy?

Can I Travel To Italy?

With its rich history, romantic vistas, majestic architecture, and magnificent food & wine, Italy offers a passionate and authentic experience you will seldom find elsewhere.

Every nook and cranny contains a fascinating piece of history. As soon as you step on Italian soil, you will notice its ancient history and culture. Historic Italian cities such as Rome will show you gigantic traces of a mighty ancient empire, the Papal kingdom, and Renaissance noble families. In contrast, smaller municipals like Florence will guide you through the Italian Middle Ages.

Sadly for the past two years, people have been unable to experience the beauty Italy offers.

Italy was among the first countries to close its bars and ristorantes, its museums and art galleries, and the first to impose strict lockdown restrictions. Fortunately, now that the dreaded virus is in remission worldwide, people are beginning to feel more confident about travelling abroad, and countries that had to close their borders are opening up to welcome them.

Tourists are once more returning to Italy, but while it is now safe to travel, there are still restrictions that all tourists should be aware of before departing.

WHAT ARE THE CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS NOW?

Being one of the first countries to be ravaged by the coronavirus, Italy has consistently enforced strict restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus.

This included the mandatory use of masks indoors and the introduction of a Super Green Pass, which was required to access facilities and services across Italy. However, in recent days, the Italian government have announced its intention to ease its Green Pass rules on entering public places from next month, with all Covid restrictions set to be scrapped on the 1st of May.

The end of Italy's Covid pass system, one of the strictest in Europe, is excellent news for tourists, who had faced a confusing array of restrictions. The decision follows an easing of border restrictions on the 1st of March when Italy began to accept proof of vaccination or recovery in place of proof of vaccination from UK arrivals.

Here is everything you need to know about travel to Italy:

Do I need to be vaccinated to visit Italy?

Travellers no longer need to have received a vaccine. They can now enter Italy with a Covid test or proof of recent infection.

Do I need a booster dose to enter Italy?

Yes, if you want to use proof of vaccination to enter the country, you will need to get the booster shot after 270 days have passed since your second dose.

Can I use proof of recent infection to enter Italy?

Yes, although you must have obtained the positive Covid test result in the past 180 days.

Do I need to do a test before travelling to Italy?

Only if you are unvaccinated and have no proof of recent infection, tests must be either PCR (72 hours) or antigen (48 hours).

What is the Green Pass and Super Green Pass, and do I need one?

The Green Pass is Italy's domestic Covid pass for entering public places. It requires you to provide proof of either a recent Covid test, proof of recent infection in the past 180 days or proof of full vaccination.

A Green Pass is currently mandatory for access to all public transport, shops, hotels, offices, museums and exhibitions. From the 1st of April, this will be scrapped, and discos will be able to operate at total capacity.

The Super Green Pass is much more strict as it removes the option of using proof of a recent negative Covid test.

The Super Green Pass is mandatory to enter indoor bars and restaurants. But from the 1st of April, the government will ease these rules for tourists, who will be able to use a Green Pass instead. From the 1st of May, you will no longer need a pass.

Are face masks mandatory in Italy?

Italy currently has some of Europe's strictest face mask rules. On flights to Italy, passengers must wear an FFP2 rated face mask. These medical-grade masks are also mandatory on all public transport. This requirement will be scrapped from the 1st of May, and masks will become optional.

Do I need to fill out any forms to travel to Italy?

You need to fill out a passenger locator form to enter Italy, which you can do here.

Do I need to test to return to the UK?

The UK dropped all of its remaining Covid-19 travel restrictions on the 18th of March.

THE BIG QUESTION; SHOULD YOU VISIT ITALY?

Absolutely, yes! Italy has much to offer from its cosmopolitan cities, ancient ruins, grand museums, soaring mountains, sandy beaches, and beautiful natural scenery. But Italy is a big country, with much to see and do, where exactly should you go?

When thinking of Italian destinations you would most like to visit, Rome, Venice, Milan, or Florence are probably among the first places to your mind. And while these are undoubtedly beautiful places to visit, and you are guaranteed to have a marvellous experience, there is much more to Italy than these popular resorts. Why not try something a little off the beaten track? Why not try Capri?

Capri

Trace a line west of the Sorrento peninsula and discover Capri. This island has long attracted the rich and famous to its glorious shores. And behind these material trappings lies an undeniably picturesque backdrop – craggy cliffs, turquoise waters, and pastel-hued houses covered in bougainvillaea. It said that Capri is a place to see and be seen – and we could not agree more!

THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN CAPRI.

Take a rowboat tour around the Blue Grotto.

Let's start with Capri's most famous sight, the Blue Grotto. Renowned for its crystal-clear aquamarine waters and sapphire colour, it's a place that everyone visiting Capri has to see.

The cave gets its distinctive bright blue colour thanks to a large hole in the rock beneath the water surface and a quirk of science which means the red light entering the hole gets filtered out. The result is beautiful!

Boat tours depart from Capri's port, Marina Grande, before continuing past Tiberius' Leap along the island's southern shore to the famous Faraglioni rock formations around Punta Carena with its picturesque lighthouse. Finally, the boat will stop in front of the Blue Grotto.

Those wishing to visit the sea cave can climb aboard small wooden rowboats to explore the serene waters. Lie back, relax, and enjoy the magical Blue Grotto.

Climb Monte Solaro.

If you are looking for the very best views in Carpi, you will need to go to the island's highest point, Monte Solaro.

You will see Monte Solaro as soon as you arrive on the island - it's the mountain that towers over Marina Grande. You won't need to bring rope and hiking gear to climb the mountain; it's a leisurely stroll to the summit. A hiking path starts in Anacapri, and from there, it's an easy hike up the mountain. As you climb, you will be able to enjoy the local flora for Monte Solaro is famous for its proliferation of plant life.

Once you're at the top of Monte Solaro, you will be able to enjoy the island's best views. The vistas stretch across the Bay of Naples, treating you to a fantastic sight of the Faraglioni and Sorrento on the mainland.

* If you want to make life even easier for yourself, you can use a chairlift to ascend and descend the mountain.

Monte Solaro, Capri, Italy

A stunning view from the top of Monte Solaro in Capri.

Stroll through the streets of Capri town.

As beautiful as the sights are around the island of Capri, there is another reason people visit the island - the designer shopping on Via Camerelle.

These tranquil streets of Capri probably have the highest concentration of luxury fashion shops anywhere in Italy. Ranging from Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Valentino, and many more, shoppers with requisite cash can spoil themselves with designer clothes and accessories.

If these fashionable boutiques are a little out of your range, why not walk to Piazza Umberto I. Grab a chair in one of the outdoor cafes in the piazza and watch as people come and go; you may even catch a glimpse of a famous actor or celebrity who come onto the island from their yachts to enjoy an evening on Capri.

Whether you want a morning espresso or an aperitivo cocktail in the evening, a visit to the Piazzetta is essential.

THINGS TO EAT IN CAPRI.

RAVIOLI CAPRESI

The most famous dish on Capri is ravioli capresi, made with a simple pasta dough using equal parts flour and water, creating an exceptionally light pasta. The filling is made with parmigiano and aged caciotta cheese, and marjoram. The cooked ravioli are tossed with a fresh tomato and basil sauce.

SCIALATIELLI

Another traditional course on Capri is Scialatielli, a fresh ribbon pasta made from dough of flavour, water, parmigiano, chopped fresh basil, and salt. The dish is often served alongside seafood or sautéed vegetables and spaghetti alla Nerano, tossed with zucchini and cheese.

PEZZOGNA

You should consider ordering pezzogna (red sea bream), a type of fish very often caught along the shores of Capri and often served in a sauce made of cherry tomatoes, parsley, garlic, and extra virgin oil. Other fish commonly served on Capri are saraghi (banded seabream), dentici (dentex), octopus, and totani (a type of calamari).

BEST PLACES TO STAY IN CAPRI.

LUXURY VILLA EXCELSIOR PARCO.

Two thousand years ago, this hotel was an Ancient Roman residence, as testified by the column towering over the entrance to the hotel. At the start of the 20th century, it became a Liberty style villa, the chosen refuge of artists, intellectuals, philosophers, and those looking for a private hideaway. In 2006 a complete restoration and renovation transformed the building into a boutique hotel where its residents could experience the traditional hospitality of Capri's most elegant villas.

Located in the heart of Capri, with Marina Grande a 9-minute walk away and over 30 restaurants within walking distance, everything you may need and want is on the doorstep. With free high-speed internet, snorkelling facilities, free taxi services, and a roof terrace giving you stunning views of the island, Luxury Villa Excelsior Parco is one of the most luxurious resorts.

VILLA BRUNELLA

On the most beautiful residential street - Via Tragara - which runs along the Faraglioni, you will find the Hotel Villa Brunella and its restaurant, Terrazza Brunella, providing you with an unbeatable combination of elegant decor, polished service, and the warm welcome that only a family-owned hotel can provide.

Hotel Villa Brunella is a 4-star boutique hotel hidden in one of the most attractive corners of Capri: a series of terraces that seem to tumble down the hillside from Via Tragara to the bougainvillaea- and hibiscus-filled gardens below.

Wake up and go to bed with some of the best views that Capri has to offer by staying at Hotel Villa Brunella.

GRAND HOTEL QUISISANA

This luxurious 5-story resort hotel is situated on a large property in the centre of Capri. Surrounded by private gardens with open sea views, Hotel Quisisana provides a personalised travel experience that is rarely found nowadays.

Where to go on holiday this April?

Last week the British government scrapped all remaining coronavirus restrictions, making it considerably easier for Britons to travel in and out of the country. With spring nearly upon us, they could not have timed this decision much better.

The month of April has become synonymous with rainy downpours, colloquially known as April Showers. If you want to escape the damp weather and have a wonderful experience, don’t sweat it. We have compiled a list of the top destinations to visit this April.

Marrakesh.

Marrakesh is a city that fizzles with life. Known as the Red City because of the high, florid walls that enclose the old medina, Marrakesh is one of the world's most captivating destinations. The allure of this bustling city never fails to attract many visitors from around the world.

There is much more to enjoy within the towering walls of Marrakesh. If visiting Marrakesh, you should make it a priority to enjoy an authentic hammam, a warm steam bath, which can be very soothing and relaxing. You should also spend a day experiencing the many colourful delights that you can find throughout the bustling souks of Marrakesh.

You could also pay a visit to the Djemaa el-Fna, a lively square in the centre of Marrakesh and a place of unique cultural exchange. Here you can eat various Morrocan delicacies, decorate your body in henna, and witness bearded men display their snake charming abilities.

Whilst you can stay in conventional hotels when visiting Marrakesh, if you want an authentic experience, we suggest you stay in a traditional riad. The riads of Marrakesh aren't just a place to lay your head at night; they are a place of awe and wonder, adorned with a number of characteristics such as the multicolour-tile mosaics, ornately carved archways, grand pillars, plush cushions and their lush interior gardens.

Bodrum.

Turkey has been one of the most attractive tourist destinations for the past years because of its wonderful mixture of rich culture and breathtaking scenery. Lying on the edge of the Aegean Turkish coast is Bodrum, one of the country's most beautiful destinations.

During the day, the beaches are a hive of activity - people sunbathing, swimming, and participating in water sports - but when night falls, the streets come alive. Bodrum town centre has some of the best nightclubs in Turkey and a street dedicated purely to bars and niteries. If partying doesn't interest you, then do as the locals do and indulge in the exquisite Aegean cuisine. Dine at the waterside restaurants and enjoy fresh seafood dishes with pleasant company in a relaxing environment.

Bodrum has always been a home of seafaring men. Previously they were fishermen, sponge divers, and boat builders. Now that Bodrum has become a popular tourist destination, they sail yachts and catamarans, taking paying tourists out to sea and giving them a tour of the Turkish Riveria.

Part of Bodrum's success lies in its diverse accommodation, and we see this in many hotels ranging from budget studio apartments to large, all-inclusive luxury hotels with a wealth of on-site spas and wellness treatments. Otherwise, you can support local business by booking into a cute boutique hotel for one to one, time-honoured Turkish hospitality.

With its Mediterranean climate and sandy beaches, the ancient yet cosmopolitan peninsula of Bodrum has become a hotspot for celebrities, with the likes of Tom Hanks, Kate Moss, and members of the British Royal Family all visiting in recent years. Why don't you come and join them, and enjoy the Turkish Riveria?

Kos

With its endless coastlines, turquoise waters, hot thermal pools, and medieval monuments, there's plenty to discover on the Greek island of Kos.

Enjoy endless walks through the main town, and observe the island's rich history through its monuments dating from antiquity, the Byzantine Period, Ottoman and Italian rule, as well as the time it served as the centre of the Order of Saint John. As you stroll through these history-steeped streets, you will see a host of sights, including ancient structures, the marina with the yachts, and the palm-street boulevard brimming with street artists and vendors.

The resorts of Lambi and Kardamena are filled with bars, restaurants, nightclubs and other touristy attractions. These resorts actually represent just a tiny fraction of what the island of Kos offers. If you want to stray off the beaten track, why not visit the far-flung corner of eastern Dodecanese. Awaiting you here is a rugged mountain terrain with mysterious caves and concealed beaches.

It is not just the beautiful beaches, rugged mountains, or ancient architecture that makes Kos such a wonderful place. It is the people. Greek people are known for being welcoming and hospitable, treating visitors as honoured guests, welcoming them into their homes, feeding them, and generally showing them a wonderful time. There are many reasons for this. One is that hospitality was a sacred duty to ancient Greeks, as any stranger that "rang the bell" could be a god in disguise, there to test the mortal homeowner's hospitality. The spirit of Greek hospitality remains across modern Greek, ingrained into their culture, and the people of Kos are no different.

From the sprawling beaches to the jagged mountains, the enthralling history, to the raucous parties, you’ll find something to love about Kos.

Tromsø

Have you ever wanted to see the Northern Lights dance across the night sky? Have you ever wanted to witness reindeer out in the wild? Then head north to Norway for an expedition like no other. Tromsø, and indeed the whole of Northern Norway, provide sublime views that are simply out of this world.

If you are interested in animals and wildlife, then Northern Norway should be at the top of your bucket list. The Polar Park allows you to see native Norwegian animals up close and personal. The park is home to various animals, including the majestic wolf, foxes, lynx, and reindeer. If you are interested in photography, you should try the photoguide, which will allow you to get up close to the animals in the park to get the perfect picture.

Northern Norway food is among the best for the foodies among you, with dozens of restaurants and smaller cafes serving you the most delicious meals. Cod, coley, Atlantic halibut, herring, haddock and red bream from the most bountiful sea in the world, or reindeer, elk, sheep and goats from the Northern Norwegian forests, mountains and plateaus - there is something from everybody to enjoy.

The main attraction, of course, is the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, a greenish-blue light that dances unpredictably over the swirling rivers of Northern Norway. If you are desperate to see the Northern Lights, you will have to act quickly. The best time to see the Aurora Borealis in Norway is from late September to early April when there are more hours of darkness during the night.

Book your flight now and get your bags packed if you want to experience the beauty of the Northern Lights.

Venice.

Italy's floating city is a sight to behold. There are no roads, only canals and labyrinthine streets, linking St Mark's Basilica with quaint coffee shops and hidden art galleries. There is nowhere else in the world quite like Venice.

If you consider yourself an aesthete, in Venice, you will have the opportunity to view the world's largest oil painting - Tintoretto's gigantic depiction of paradise in the 14th-century Palazzo Ducale. Here, you'll find the world's finest collection of Venetian Renaissance paintings displayed under carved, gilded ceilings dating back to the 15th century.

The best way to appreciate the water-facing facades of Venice's most ornate palaces is from a barge on the Grand Canal. As you meander through the waterways, keep your eyes peeled for gothic masterpieces like the Palazzo Corner della Ca' Grande.

If you want to experience something a little different, why not visit a Murano glassmaker. Venetian glass is world-renowned for being colourful, elaborate, and skilfully made. For an insight into the secretive world of Venetian glassmaking, you should take a vaporetto to the island of Murano. Browse the workshops along the waterfront promenades, or visit the Glass Museum inside the 17th-century Palazzo Giustinian – where you can see the permanent collection ranges from the Roman era to the modern-day. You will also be able to watch a glass-blowing demonstration at the Vetreria Murano Arte factory.

Everybody should visit Venice once, and there is no better time than April, just before the summer crowds descend on the historic city.

Prague.

Prague is a place rich in culture and tradition, a place where modern and traditional constantly meet. Prague is a city where you will find everything you need for the perfect vacation.

Prague was only of the countries across Europe to avoid being severely damaged during World War II. For this reason, many of its impressive historical buildings remain perfectly intact to this day. Similarly, many of the builders were left relatively unharmed during the 17th and 18th centuries. As a result, the city is a breathtaking mix of Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture that is hard to find anywhere else in Europe. If you are interested in architecture, we suggest you visit the Our Lady Before Týn church in Prague’s Old Town Square, which is a marvellous example of Gothic architecture, while Schwarzenberg Palace inside the Prague Castle’s grounds is a classic example of Renaissance design. Examples of Cubism and Neoclassicism are also abounded throughout the city, with touches of Art Nouveau in places, such as the Municipal House.

Prague is known for being one of the cheapest capitals across Europe. An unlimited monthly transport ticket will set you back just €20, while a beer will cost you about €1.20. Czechs actually consume more beer per capita than any other country in the world. Czech beers tend to be light and foamy, with brewers such as Pilsner Urquell and Staropramen all originating in Prague. Beer gardens are a staple of Czech culture, with families and friends congregating to watch sports and music videos on large screens.

If you are an architecture lover or beer lover, a lover of fine things or a penny-pincher, Prague is the perfect place for you to visit this April.

Japan.

Japan is, without question, one of the most unique places in the world. The culture, the history, the food, and the people make Japan a country you can't find anywhere else.

The arrival of spring brings warmer temperatures throughout the country. Aside from the warmer weather, April is a great time to visit Japan as it avoids the cold winter and the wet, humid summer. There is also a lot of exciting and distinctive things that you can do that only be done in Japan.

Most tourists visiting Japan travel to Tokyo first. Even if you're travelling somewhere else, Tokyo deserves to be explored and enjoyed. As the most modern, most varied city in Japan, Tokyo offers a mix of old and new like nowhere else. Perhaps you would like to visit Electric Town (Akihabara) area to walk among the steel and glass skyscrapers, or perhaps you could pay a visit to an ancient Buddhist or Shinto shrine, such as the Sensoji Shrine.

April is a great time to enjoy some outdoor activities because temperatures are comfortable but not generally too humid for activities like hiking. While much of Japan is urban and dense, you can find beautiful mountain trails within close proximity of Tokyo, such as the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park or the area around Nikko. The island of Shikoku or the Japan Alps mountain range offers more remote trails that are great for multi-day treks.

Throughout April, there are various festivals and celebrations across Japan, including:

  • Hanami (cherry blossom viewing parties) - Cherry trees bloom from mid-March until late April in Hokkaido before sweeping across the country. Cherry blossom viewing parties are a favourite annual pastime of many Japanese people, so these parties are a chance to enjoy nature and Japan's unique culture.

  • Golden Week - This is actually a collection of four holidays that fall within a week, from April 29th to May 5th. These holidays are Showa Day, Constitution Day, Greenery Day, and Children's Day. Various events are held in observance of these individual holidays, and many people take the full week off work in order to maximize the celebrations.

There are an endless number of reasons to visit Japan, as the country has something to entice almost every kind of traveller.

Enjoy your holidays!

Now that the government have made it easier to travel, you should consider getting away somewhere new this April, and these are just some of the options available.

Whether you want to visit one of the destinations above or somewhere else, we can help get you there. With access to 7000+ private jets worldwide, Astute Private Jet Charter offers the smoothest private jet charter experience, organising your arrangements to support your needs.

What are the UK Covid travel rules now?

What are the UK Covid travel rules now?

We have been living in a state of flux for the past two years, unsure if we were coming or going.

One of the biggest challenges has been staying up to date with the ever-changing Covid rules. Recently, the rules changed again.

Coming almost two years after the initial Covid lockdown measurers were first imposed across the UK, the government recently announced that all remaining Covid travel restrictions have been lifted for passengers entering the UK.

The government has said the change had been deliberately timed before the Easter holidays but added that they have drawn up contingency plans to respond to any future Covid variants.

Here is a complete breakdown of everything you need to know:

Am I allowed to travel?

There are currently no legal restrictions on outbound international travel, and while the red list still exists, there are no countries currently on it. However, not every country is open to UK travellers.

In response to the rising Covid infection rate across the UK, a number of countries have banned travellers from the UK or are imposing quarantine upon them - even those who are fully vaccinated.

Before booking a holiday, you must check the latest UK Foreign Office travel advice for your destination.

Are Passenger Locator Forms still required?

As of Friday 18th March, Passenger Locator Forms are no longer required upon re-entering the country.

Do I need a test on my return to the UK?

The government have recently scrapped the requirement for all unvaccinated arrivals to receive Covid tests.

Will I need to wear a face-covering on the plane?

It is no longer necessary to wear face masks on airplanes, private or otherwise, although it is still "strongly recommended" to do so, out of consideration for the boarding crew.

In England, there is no legal requirement to wear a face-covering within airports, although the government do suggest you wear a face-covering in crowded and enclosed spaces. In Wales and Scotland, you must wear face masks at airports.

What countries are open for travel?

UK travellers have plenty of options to choose from, some of which require very little to enter. The US, for example, asks only for one Covid test taken at least one day before travel for the fully vaccinated. If you are struggling to think of where to go for your holidays, we have compiled a list of some popular places to visit, which are currently open to people in the UK and require very little to enter.

Are private jet passengers exempt from Covid restrictions?

While private flights are safer and minimise the risk of contracting any infectious diseases, private jet passengers are not exempt from Covid travel restrictions.

Passengers are still expected to wear face masks when boarding and departing the plane and are encouraged to wear them on board the plane out of consideration to the boarding crew. Similarly, they are required to wear face masks when roaming the airport and follow the restrictions of the destination country.

What should I be aware of before travelling?

It is important to be aware that things can change quickly, so it is essential to be prepared for any last-minute changes.

Robust travel insurance that is suitable for your needs is a sensible idea. If you are forced to cancel, postpone, or otherwise curtail your vacation because of Covid, having insurance can assist in recovering any lost cost.

It is also your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct documentation needed to enter the destination country. This may include:

  • Proof of a negative Covid-19 test.

  • Documentation providing details of travel 30 days before departure.

  • Health declaration forms.

  • Arrangement of Covid-19 test upon arrival.

  • Arrangements of quarantine requirements upon arrival.

Again, much of this information can be found on the UK Foreign Office travel advice.

Enjoy your holidays!

Now you know the rules; all you need to do is choose somewhere to go.

Astute Destinations – Maldives

Private villas hung above stunning blue seas, alabaster white sand beaches, and breathtaking sunsets lowering towards the horizon. The visual splendour of the Maldives is breathtaking, and you won't really know it until you go there yourself.

This secluded nation of 1,200 islands and over 30 coral atolls offer world-class diving and snorkelling. There are several possibilities to get out of the hotel resort bubble and enjoy the magnificent remoteness of this tropical paradise. The Maldives is becoming a more affordable holiday destination, thanks to a better speedboat transit system and the emergence of independent guesthouses.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Visit Male

There are several must-see attractions in the Maldivian capital. Visit the nation's 17th-century mosque (Hukuru Miskiiy) and the National Museum for a historical overview of the country. Take a coffee in one of the deliciously chaotic cafés and watch the world go by.

Go Diving

The Maldives is one of the world's top diving locations. Visit Rasdhoo Madivaru (aka Hammerhead Point) to see hammerheads or free dive with whale sharks. There are also several manta rays and marine turtles here. Dives in a single tank start at 925 MVR (USD 60).

Relax on the beach

Outside of the private resorts, two of the nicest beaches in the Maldives are Omadoo on the South Ari Atoll and Ukulhas Island on the Alif Alif Atoll. Manadhoo is also a fantastic location. Take note: Please be sure you're on a 'Bikini Beach' (a beach specifically for westerners).

Do Water Sports

Parasailing, water skiing, jet-skiing, snorkelling, and kayaking are all available in the Maldives, as well as banana boats (inflatable boats hauled by a speedboat). Snorkelling costs 123 MVR (USD 8), and tandem parasailing costs 3,000 MVR (USD 200).

WHAT TO EAT

The seafood in the Maldives is really wonderful and extremely fresh. The majority of Male's restaurants have outside seating. The Seagull Café, Symphony, Royal Garden Café, and Irudhashu Hotaa are some of the most popular locations to visit (for quick meals).

WHERE TO STAY?

Every resort in the Maldives has its own private island, and with over 100 options, the only challenge is deciding where to stay. At the very top, the world's most exclusive hotel companies seek to achieve ever-higher levels of luxury, from personal butlers and private lap pools to in-room massages and pillow menus. It's no surprise that honeymooners and anyone looking for a luxury tropical holiday have long placed the country at the top of their bucket lists. Beyond the five- and six-star resorts, though, there is a plethora of options.

Best Hotels in the Maldives

Vivanta by Taj Coral Reef

Set on heart-shaped Hembadhu Island, Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa is a contemporary tropical paradise tucked over a 1000-year old precious coral atoll in the sunny Maldives. Just a 45-minute ride by a speed boat from Velana International Airport, 62-luxurious thatched-roof villas are designed atop our house reef to offer environmentally-responsible, all-inclusive vacations.

PER AQUUM Huvafen Fushi

A resort filled with infinite enchantment, the Per Aquum Huvafen Fushi, is a luxury hotel that will definitely meet expectations. In other words, a living dream. With sea view bungalows and pavilions, that provide privacy and relaxation. The iconic resort is a magnificent playground for those seeking an elevated accommodation experience.

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

These calm seas are ideal for those romantic overwater bungalows that have become associated with the island, and the coral reefs make it a popular snorkelling destination. The Maldives beaches, of course, are the last component of this exquisite holiday location, with many of them being immaculate, white-sand lengths where visitors may spend long days luxuriating. Keeping this in mind, these are the top 7 beaches in the Maldives.

Can I Travel To Amsterdam?

Can I Travel To Amsterdam?

Even for the most well-travelled of people, there is something special about Amsterdam.

With the city's olive-green canals, its handsome gabled mansions and ancient patrician houses, its fanciful cafes and chic restaurants, Amsterdam provides a cornucopia of pleasures. While the city is indeed beautiful, there are other cities just as beautiful, if not more so. It is not this that makes Amsterdam so unique. It is the people who live there that make Amsterdam what it is.

With 180 different nationalities, Amsterdam's population is one of the most diverse in Europe. Over the last 50 years, the city has seen an influx of people from countries and cultures around the world, and it is all the better for it.

Amsterdam's cultural and social life is so varied and extensive - there are world-class museums, restaurants, theatres, concert halls, and so many unique cultural experiences such as canal-side concerts and outdoor festivals - that there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Unfortunately, this vibrant city, like so many others around the world, has lain dormant for the past two years. The cafes and restaurants, usually brimming with revellers enjoying a glass of jenever, lay vacant. The museums and art galleries were forced to close their doors to the connoisseurs who normally peruse their corridors. The city's cobbled streets, which are generally teeming with artisans flogging their goods and tourists cycling through the city, lay empty - all because of this dreaded virus.

After a surge in Omicron cases, the Dutch government imposed some of Europe's most rigid Covid restrictions. All hospitality venues and non-essential shops were forced to close. Curfews were implemented. Unvaccinated foreigners were banned from entering the country, and those that were vaccinated were required to quarantine for up to 10 days.

Last month, however, when coronavirus cases began to fall across the Netherlands, the Dutch government began to ease most of the restrictions, and the Amsterdam we know and love returned.

WHAT ARE THE CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS NOW?

If you're fully vaccinated.

Fully vaccinated Britons who can provide acceptable proof of vaccination, including the NHS Covid Pass, are allowed to enter the Netherlands.

Proof of vaccination, however, is only valid 270 days after the final dose of your primary vaccination. 270 days after the final dose of the primary vaccination, you need a booster to be considered fully vaccinated. Currently, there is no end date for the validity of the booster.

Fully vaccinated travellers over the age of 12 no longer have to quarantine upon arriving in the Netherlands. They do, however, have to show one of the following:

  • A negative PCR test result (taken no more than 48 hours before departure).

  • A negative antigen test results (taken no more than 24 hours before departure).

If you're not fully vaccinated.

If you are not fully vaccinated or a legal resident of the Netherlands, you are only allowed to enter the Netherlands from the UK if you meet the requirements of an exemption category of the EU entry ban, as established by the Dutch government.

Under this entry ban, non-EU/EEA nationals and nationals of non-Schengen states arriving from outside the Schengen area will not be permitted entry to the Netherlands for non-essential purposes unless they are fully vaccinated. Examples of exemptions include:

  • Partners of UK nationals who hold a Netherlands residence permit issued under Article 50 TEU (Withdrawal Agreement). Partners must meet the criteria set out by the Dutch government and must carry with them a copy of their partner's residence permit. See the Dutch government's website for further information and the full criteria travellers must meet.

  • Close family members of seriously or terminally ill patients or those attending the funeral of an immediate family member. Travellers must complete a form before travelling.

  • Grandparents visiting their newborn grandchildren. Travellers must complete a form before travelling.

  • Divorced parents visiting any child(ren) who are minors. Travellers must complete a form before travelling.

Travellers who are not fully vaccinated and do not meet the EU entry ban exemption category requirements are not allowed to enter the Netherlands from the UK.

If travellers who are not fully vaccinated meet the requirements of an exemption category, they must, in addition, adhere to the following:

  • Travellers aged 12 years and over need to show proof of a negative test.

  • A negative PCR test result (taken no more than 48 hours before departure).

  • A negative antigen test result (taken no more than 24 hours before departure).

  • All travellers need to show a completed quarantine declaration form.

  • A health declaration is also required if travelling by aeroplane.

Not having these forms may result in a fine.

Travellers aged 13 and over from very high-risk areas, including the UK, must quarantine for ten days. Only fully vaccinated travellers who have received a booster vaccine are currently exempt from quarantine.

Other Restrictions.

All indoor and outdoor public spaces such as restaurants, bars, cinemas, theatres, music venues and professional sporting events are open to the public without limitations. The rules on showing a coronavirus entry pass, assigned seating, wearing a face mask and keeping 1.5 metres apart will no longer apply, and capacity is no longer limited.

It is mandatory to wear a face mask in and around public transport, in all areas inside airports and aeroplanes.

THE BIG QUESTION; SHOULD YOU VISIT AMSTERDAM?

Yes, Amsterdam is absolutely worth visiting. With its beautiful architecture, captivating scenery, and fascinating history, it's no wonder Amsterdam is routinely ranked among the greatest cities to visit. If you haven't visited Amsterdam yet, it's not too late.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN AMSTERDAM.

Cycling in Amsterdam.

Cycling is the most authentic way to travel around the city, and no visitor should leave Amsterdam without experiencing the city's bicycle culture.

Amsterdam is regularly ranked as the second safest city globally, narrowly behind Copenhagen. Amsterdam has some strict highway rules that favour the pedallers and invested a lot of money in improving cycle lanes throughout the city. There is around 515km (320 miles) of dedicated cycle lanes across the city, making it easier for cyclists to traverse through the city. For this reason, there are more bikes than people in Amsterdam - 22.8 million bikes, or 1.33 bikes per person.

If you plan on visiting Amsterdam, the best way to travel through the city is by bicycle!

Amsterdam's Historic Canal Network.

With every justification, Amsterdam is famous for the beauty of its canals, a network of narrow waterways that rival Venice in their historic charm and beauty.

Many visitors opt for a canal cruise, but there are other ways of enjoying the waterways: the canal hop-on-hop-off service is a quick way of travelling through the city, avoiding the thronging tourists, allowing you to explore the quieter parts of the city. Those of you who are more energetic can hire a pedalo and thrash around to see how far you can get.

Aside from giving you a fresh perspective of the city, the canal network has an interesting history. Completed around 1660, the intricate canal network helped the city grow to what it is today. A maze of connecting canals brought merchandise from all over the world to the doorstep of every canal-side merchant, contributing to the city's rapid growth transforming it into a global powerhouse.

Amsterdam's Works of Art.

The Dutch take great pride in their cultural heritage, which is obvious why.

Amsterdam's Golden Age saw an extraordinary flourishing of the arts - and much of it is displayed in Amsterdam, adding significantly to the city's allure. The most famous Golden Age painter was Rembrandt, arguably one of the greatest artists to have ever lived. Other great artists who came from the Netherlands include Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Johannes Vermeer, and, of course, Vincent Van Gogh.

Many of their artwork now hangs in Amsterdam's premier art museum, the capacious Rijksmuseum. The museum has 22 Rembrandt paintings, from the early Self-Portrait as a Young Man to the later Self-Portrait as the Apostle Paul; the collection forms a coherent overview of Rembrandt's entire life.

Not too far away from the Rijksmuseum is the Van Gogh Museum, which is its closest rival. You begin with his early work when he was a young man and conflicted; as you make your way through the museum, you experience his pain and turmoil, ending with his final pieces of work, which explore his last days of struggle and chaos. The Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are unmissable for anybody interested in painting and the fine arts.

Amsterdam & Alcohol.

When you visit Amsterdam, be sure to try jenever, which is Dutch gin. It is slightly weaker and a little oiler than English gin. It is served in small glasses and sold at a number of specialist gin bars but is widely available across the city. Choose from oude (old) or jong (young), or korenwijn, which has a malty, oaky flavour. A glass of beer with a jenever chaser is called a kopstoot.

Bols is one of the world's largest Jenever producers, and there's no better place to have a taste of jenever. Nowadays, most of the production is done outside of the city, but there are a couple of ways to see the distilling process without wandering too far. You could visit Lucas Bols Distillery in the Red Light District. There you will find three small stills where jenever is made. Right next door is the Wynand Fockink tavern, where you can drink the same jenever made in the distillery, as well as a massive selection of different liqueurs.

For a more extensive tour, you can visit the House of Bols in the museum district of Amsterdam. The tour guide will explain the history of spices in the Netherlands and how world trade impacted Dutch food and drink throughout the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. At the end of the tour, a cocktail bar shows you how the spirit is being used by bartenders today.

There are various other tours around distilleries and bars that you can do. There are also various bar crawls you and your friends can partake in. We personally recommend the Amsterdam Beer Bike, in which you and your friends can pedal around the streets of Amsterdam whilst sipping ice-cold beer.

Anne Frank's House.

This one is far more sombre than the previous suggestions, but a visit to Anne Frank's house is necessary if you are in Amsterdam.

The house is where the young Anne Frank, her family, and four others hid during the second world war. Today, you can tour the huis, which was an office with an annexe. Anne's father, Otto Frank, ran his company here. He dealt with products such as pectin, herbs, and spices. The office included a laboratory for experimenting with fruit jams. When conditions in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam worsened, Otto ushered his family into hiding, using the annexe at the back of his warehouse. The area was only about 500 square feet. On June 12, 1942, they went into hiding just a few days after Anne turned 13. They stayed there day and night until their arrest on August 4, 1944.

You will see first-hand the view Anne saw from the attic window as she dreamed of a better future for herself and her family. You will see the room where the lonely Anne played with her imaginary friend, Kitty. You will be able to see her famous diary in which she eloquently expressed her thoughts and feelings during those dark, terrible days. Visiting her house is a solemn occasion and will have a deeply profound effect on you.

THINGS TO EAT IN AMSTERDAM.

Stroopwafel.

If you try one Dutch sweet treat, make it a stroopwafel. Two waffles stuck together with a layer of sweet syrup; these delectable delicacies are best enjoyed warm and gooey. You will be able to find them from a street market or bakery.

Dutch Pancakes.

Dutch pancakes have a thinner, crepe-like consistency with more surface area for delicious toppings than the thick and fluffy American variety. Order yours laden with fruit, cream and syrup.

Apple Pie.

The deep-dish Dutch version is infused with cinnamon, dotted with raisins and served until a smothering of whipped cream. Though it tops the dessert menu at most restaurants and cafés, Winkel 43 in the Jordaan neighbourhood serves one of the best.

Raw Herring.

This may sound a little intimidating to the uninitiated, but every visitor to Amsterdam should give it a taste. You'll spot haringhandels (herring carts) serving up this Dutch speciality across the city. Ask the vendor for a 'broodje haring' to get the fish served in a small sandwich with pickles and onions. The best time to try raw herring is between May and July, when the herring is said to be at its sweetest.

Poffertjes.

Pronounced 'PO-fer-jus', these little fluffy clouds of battery goodness are served up at restaurants and pancake houses all over Amsterdam, but nothing can beat a bag of hot, buttery poffertjes from a street market vendor. Sprinkle them with powdered sugar and let the good times roll.

Tompouce.

Named after a performing dwarf who went by the stage name of Tom Pouce, this cream-filled rectangular pastry is characterised by a layer of smooth pink icing on top. Tompouce is strictly regulated to ensure consistency in size, shape and colour – although, for the past few years, the icing has turned bright orange in Amsterdam around King's Day.

BEST PLACES TO STAY IN AMSTERDAM.

NH City Centre Amsterdam.

The NH City Centre Amsterdam Centre offers guests a gateway to this historic and beautiful city. Located in the heart of Amsterdam and overlooking the Singel Canal, the hotel is a short walk to the famous floating flower market, the moving Anne Frank Museum, and the bustling shops of Dam Square.

Hotel The Craftsmen

A beautiful 17th-century building in a prime canal-side location that has been converted into a boutique hotel, done up with the historical tools and trappings of the eponymous craftsman of Dutch history. Hotel The Craftsman offers a distinctive design, a strong historical story, and a luxurious stay. It is a gem of a small hotel with a family-run ambience.

Die Port Van Cleve

Hotel Die Port van Cleve is a famous Dutch hotel located directly behind the Royal Palace & facing Dam Square. Due to its central location, you will find many tourist and cultural sites within walking distance. Hotel Die Port van Cleve has a rich history. Heineken opened its first brewery in this building in 1864. Hulscher's restaurant is famous for its numbered steaks, and Bar-Bodega' De Blauwe Parade' has a unique Delft blue tile fresco dating from 1887. The rooms are decorated with references to the authentic tile fresco in the bar.

BEST BARS IN AMSTERDAM.

Hiding in Plain Sight.

Walking into this classy speakeasy-style bar, you feel like you've entered a secret clubhouse.

Close to the centre but tucked away enough to avoid the tourist crowds, Hiding in Plain Sight richly rewards those who walk through the corner door. With its inventive cocktails, knowledgeable bartenders, and lounge-style seating, it's a truly delightful place to spend an evening.

Rayleigh & Ramsay van Wou.

Curate your own wine tasting at Rayleigh & Ramsey Van Wou which describes itself as 'a candy store for adults. Load some euros on a 'wine card' at the counter, then mosey around the room and tap it at the dispensers that line the walls to taste up to 100 bottles of wine.

Flying Dutchman Cocktails

This wild cocktail bar; Fly Dutchman Cocktails is smack in the centre of Amsterdam. Co-owner Tess Posthumus has been nominated for four years running for the best international bartender at the Spirited Awards. She shows off her mixologist chops here, focusing on classic cocktails based on recipes up to date 400 years old. There are more than 500 bottles behind the softly lit bar for any spirit connoisseur reading this.

Pllek

Up in stylish Amsterdam Noord, Pllek is a bar, beach, and restaurant rolled into one that also hosts outdoor summer film screenings and live electronic music. To get there, hop on the free ferry at Amsterdam Centraal and settle in with a couple of beers or a glass of rosé on the sand. Astute Destinations – Dubai

Over the last four decades, Dubai has transformed from a tiny Gulf trade centre to one of the world's most abundant, stunning, and futuristic metropolitan destinations, driven by a heady combination of petrodollars, creative business acumen, and naked ambition. If you visit Dubai for a week or just a few days, you will be blown away by the mix of cultures, extraordinary luxury, and world-renowned architecture. Discover everything this one-of-a-kind city offers with the finest Dubai travel guide.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Dubai Platinum Luxury Desert Safari

There are several ways to explore the undulating dunes of the desert just outside of Dubai. Still, this animal-spotting desert safari provides a unique and ecologically friendly way to see this stunning region. Remember to dress in layers—the desert may be cool in the morning but soon warms up during the day.

The Global Village

Dubai's Global Village is similar to Epcot on steroids, featuring more than 70 cultures in several nation pavilions where tourists may shop, dine, and do other activities. Bring your camera and take a great shot "for the gram" at one of the "selfie sites," or attend various concerts.

Dubai Marina XLine

Thrill enthusiasts should check out this high-flying zip line that takes riders more than 3,000 feet over Dubai Marina. Riders ride at a speed of roughly 50 miles per hour on average. The starting platform alone is more than 550 feet high, so this attraction is not for the faint of heart.

Burj Khalifa

This is the world's tallest building, and the view from the top is stunning. Take in the sights of Dubai's diverse districts from the 125th level or reserve a space on the world's tallest observation deck with an outdoor patio on the 148th floor. Don't forget to watch The Dubai Fountain display when you return to land.

WHAT TO EAT | BEST RESTAURANTS

Here are the three best restaurants in Dubai:

Brasserie 2.0

There are plenty of ultra-luxurious restaurants in Dubai, but nothing shouts magnificent like an extravagant brunch buffet. With over ten live cooking stations (think: seafood on the outside grill and paella) and a juice and smoothie bar that visitors may enjoy from the outdoor garden terrace, this one surely meets the bill.

102 Comptoir

When you relax into the shady patio of this organic café, you might be excused for thinking you were in California or Tulum. Order an avocado crostino, a halloumi salad, or gluten-free buckwheat pancakes, and then refresh with a chai latte prepared with handmade almond milk. After you've finished your meal, go over to the accompanying concept shop, where you'll discover boho dresses, one-of-a-kind glassware, jewellery, and more.

Baker & Spice

This all-natural café combines Middle Eastern tastes with western cuisine by using local foods wherever feasible. For breakfast, try one of the classic shakshuka and homemade bread, or later in the day, order the handmade beetroot bucatini with chickpea curry and toasted coconut (trust us on this one).

WHERE TO STAY?

In Dubai, there is no lack of hotels, particularly luxury ones. You may also look at renting sites like Airbnb. When it comes to the greatest location, consider Dubai a lengthy strip. If you've gone to Las Vegas or Cancun, you'll understand what we mean.

The most central, and hence most congested, region is around the Dubai Mall, where the Burj Khalifa is situated. The Dubai Marina lies at the opposite end, with the Palm Jumeirah and the Burj Al Arab nearby. The Dubai airport and Old Dubai with its souks are located at the other end of this "strip." The majority of this stretch is occupied by Jumeirah Beach, lined with beach resorts, shops, and restaurants. Depending on your preferences, you could opt to stay near one of these sites.

Burj al Arab

The distinctive silhouette of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah is more than just a stunning hotel; it is a symbol of modern Dubai. Designed to resemble the graceful sail of an Arabian dhow, it soars to a height of 321 meters, towering over the Jumeirah beach. The all-suite hotel offers 201 luxury duplexes with stunning views of the ocean, private beach access, luxury leisure on a breathtaking terrace with pools and cabanas, as well as 9 of the world’s best dining and entertainment venues helmed by Michelin-starred chefs.

Al Qasr

Designed in the style of a Sheikh's summer residence, Jumeirah Al Qasr epitomises palatial luxury. Experience a regal stay in one of the hotel's many suites that pay homage to the opulence of ancient Arabia while enjoying the rich ocean views.

One&Only Royal Mirage

The Palace at One&Only Royal Mirage conjures the magic of Arabia. Guests can wander through the abundant gardens or stroll amongst the meandering water features. The hotel is a tranquil haven with 231 guest rooms and suites and a private beach that offers rich leisure facilities, including a water sports centre, tennis courts, and children's facilities.

When it comes to creature pleasures, all of Dubai's greatest hotels provide extravagant luxury as standard, with opulent suites, rich spa treatments, great bars, and stunning private beaches. Because of their size and elegance, the greatest locations are almost tourist attractions in their own right — self-contained islands of pleasure where you may spend day after day without ever feeling the need to leave.

THE BEST BARS

The city offers a plethora of exceptional bars that go above and beyond the basic, from seaside hangouts ideal for drinking sparkling spritzes and crisp glasses of rosé to fancy watering holes with avant-garde dishes worth dressing up for. Here's a bar list to where you may get a drink with a buddy or lover in the emirate.

  • The Irish Village

  • Double Decker

  • Dhow and Anchor

  • West Beach Bistro & Sports Lounge

  • Sama Lounge

  • Hard Rock Cafe Dubai

  • Somerset’s

  • McGettigan’s

THE BEST BEACHES

The Middle Eastern emirate of Dubai is widely known for its luxury tourism, but it also has miles and miles of snowy-white, fine-sand beaches. These beaches are located on the warm, aqua-blue Persian Gulf (also known as the Arabic Gulf in the region), transforming the area into an open beach resort destination.

With our selection of the finest beaches in Dubai, you can find the perfect spot to unwind along the coast.

  • Sunset Beach

Where To Travel To Without Quarantining.

Holidays should be relaxing and rejuvenating, but at the moment, organising a holiday can be overwhelming, especially if travelling internationally, with most countries having different rules, restrictions, and testing requirements to tackle Covid.

While restrictions have eased on home soil and most countries are now open to British travellers, many destinations have rules in force for holidaymakers. Many of them require you to be fully vaccinated or quarantine for a set number of days.

When going on holiday, you don't want to be cooped up inside for weeks on end; you want to enjoy yourselves and revel in what this new country has to offer.

To alleviate some of the stress that comes with planning a holiday in a post-covid world, we have compiled a list of countries you can enter without getting vaccinated or quarantining on arrival.

Where can I go on holiday?

Adults don't need to be fully vaccinated to travel to these following destinations, nor do they need to quarantine on arrival.

There are, however, some requirements still in place that you should be aware of. For instance, many of these countries require proof of a negative PCR test result from all arrivals. You will be able to find the entry requirements on the government website.

Turkey.

There are so many reasons why you should visit Turkey: crystal clear waters, tall mountains, the ruins of ancient empires, small idyllic villages, and huge cosmopolitan cities.

Bodrum, Antalya, Izmir and Fethiye are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey, with a spectrum that includes everything from secluded coves to exciting beach parties. One of the best ways to experience the Mediterranean or Aegean Coast is by taking a Blue Cruise.

If you are after something more cultured, perhaps you would like to visit one of Turkey's many archaeological sites. Turkey has a remarkable amount of archaeological sites spread across the country. From Istanbul palaces and mosques to the ruins of Ephesus to the underground cities of Cappadocia, the nation is a haven for archaeology and history enthusiasts.

Cape Verde.

It doesn't matter whether you seek adventure or relax with loved ones. Cape Verde has something to offer to everyone. The Cape Verde islands, situated off the west coast of Africa, are known for their music, culture, year-round sunshine and stunning scenery.

Cape Verde boasts hundreds of miles of breathtaking coastline with gorgeous black and white sand beaches across its ten islands. Many of these beaches are remote and unspoiled and are home to various species that only exist on Cape Verde and its surrounding waters, including whale sharks, humpback whales, and mantas.

One of the major highlights of visiting new places is the delicacies you get to enjoy, and the Cape Verde Islands are no exception. We recommend you try the manioc balls or their national delicacy cachupa.

One of the exciting things about Cape Verda is its wonderful amalgamation of cultures. Although the Portuguese originally discovered the archipelago, African and European influences flow through it. The islands will provide you with a melting pot of different cultures.

Greece.

Beautiful buildings, hospitable people, stunning beaches, fantastic weather, unique flavours; there are a million reasons why you should visit Greece.

Greek hospitality is legendary. The roots of hospitality live deep in the hearts of the Greek people. For the ancient Greeks, it was an institution and an act of virtue to welcome and care for strangers in their homes as they thought the gods sent them. Hospitality remains an important value for Greeks, and they will treat you warmly from wherever you come from.

In Greece, it is harder to avoid ruins than to find them. Visit the perfectly proportioned columns of the Parthenon or Cape Sounion; the seaside temple of Poseidon; or sprint across the well-preserved stadium on the way to the original Olympic fields at Ancient Olympia, peer into Agamemnon's tomb at Mycenae or cry over an ancient tragedy in the ancient Theater of Epidaurus.

Greek wine is exquisite; ouzo is among the most famous and worth trying. This powerful, liquorice-flavoured Greek spirit is served before meals with a glass of water. One of the many authentically Greek experiences is drinking ouzo and eating mezedes with friends at the seaside on the Greek islands.

Egypt.

Egypt may be known for its pharaohs and its pyramids, but there is more to this nation than you might expect. From surreal waters and golden sand beaches to remarkable architecture and natural therapies, Egypt is a beautiful place to visit.

Ancient Egypt is one of the most exciting and oldest civilisations. The Great Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving ancient wonder, along with ancient Egyptian statues and tombs, continue to seize the attention of top archaeologists and, of course, the wider world.

The Red Sea is without question the best place to dive in Egypt. It offers diverse locations for an unforgettable experience, including bright corals and colourful, distinctive fish. Egypt offers different diving opportunities, including wrecks, walls, drifts, pinnacles, shore dives, day boats and liveaboards.

Therapeutic tourism has long been popular in Egypt. The hot springs here are reputed to help cure respiratory diseases, kidney, bone and other skin problems. The mud in many areas is also said to cure skin issues. Sand-burying massages are also popular in Egypt and treat physical injuries.

Costa Rica.

Costa Rica has long been one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. With its golden beaches, abundant wildlife, and endless opportunities for adventure, it offers an unparalleled tropical vacation experience. There is no shortage of fun things to do in Costa Rica, no matter what type of vacation you are looking for.

The country is perfect for wildlife lovers. It's a world-class birding destination, with resplendent quetzals, oropendolas, scarlet and green macaws, toucans and toucanets, and all kinds of raptors, aquatic birds and songbirds.

Recreational zip lining was actually invented in Costa Rica, and it remains a breathtaking adventure that's not to be missed. Costa Rica is also a global magnet for surfers. Other popular water sports include white-water rafting, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkelling. The country is also a fisherman's paradise, with some of the world's largest populations of sailfish and marlin. Both deep-sea and inshore fishing are big attractions, and anglers are also drawn to Costa Rica's many rivers and lakes.

There is no shortage of exciting outdoor adventures, activities, and tours to enjoy in Costa Rica. Among the ways to explore the country's abundant natural riches are hiking, birding, horseback riding, all-terrain vehicle tours, cycling and mountain climbing.

Astute Destinations – Rome

Rome is the third most visited city in Europe, and the fifteenth-most visited city globally, thanks to its unique history. It draws people from all over the globe who are eager to see the city's great structures and ancient sites, as well as its famous food and bustling environment.

When visiting the Colosseum, tourists may readily visualise the gladiators fighting for their lives in the arena, cheered on by the audience. In the Circus Maximus, visitors may imagine chariots colliding to win the race, and in the Roman Forum, they can imagine Roman public life.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Explore the Colosseum

Even though the queue of visitors sometimes appears interminable, the Colosseum is not to be missed. It is over 2,000 years old and was the Roman Empire's greatest amphitheatre (it could hold 50,000 people). The admission fee is 12 EUR.

Tour Vatican City

Don't leave Rome without visiting Vatican City to view the Pope's residence, St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the many museums. Tickets are priced at 17 EUR. (Due to the Basilica's rigorous dress rule, please dress modestly.)

Eat Your Way Around Trastevere

This is one of our favourite parts of town to visit. The meandering lanes are beautiful, and there is some excellent cuisine to be found here. Spend some time walking about – you won't regret! Because there are fewer visitors here, it has a much more real Roman atmosphere!

WHAT TO EAT

Simply said, Rome is a fantastic place to eat. Its inhabitants are well-versed in the concepts of freshness and authenticity, and they may be rather demanding when it comes to the quality of the foods they are given.

Most restaurants in the city centre provide basic Italian menus focusing on classic Roman foods, while a few more daring establishments have recently opened. There are also various restaurants serving a range of regional cuisines.

The city also has a plethora of excellent pizzerias that serve thin, crispy-baked Roman pizza from wood-fired ovens. In recent years, a handful of successful exponents of the thicker, airier, Neapolitan style have also achieved favour.

WHERE TO STAY? | Best Hotels

There is plenty of lodging in Rome. The broad selection of hotels in the city centre has improved significantly in recent years, with several new boutique hotels and modern B&Bs appearing.

Rooms of Rome

Alda Fendi interrupted her design career to establish an art foundation; this hotel/gallery is the next phase. It's an 18th-century palace reduced to the brick bone and reconstructed by Jean Nouvel under the Palatine Hill and near the Bocca Della Verità (immortalised in Roman Holiday). The balcony offers breathtaking views of the Palatine, and visitors have access to the hotel's exhibits.

Palazzo Manfredi

No other hotel in the city can provide such a breathtaking view as this contemporary, quiet hotel located just across the Colosseum. Enjoy the views from the rooftop restaurant or reserve a front-facing room to sleep next to one of the world's most iconic structures.

Residenza Ruspoli Bonaparte

Looking for a hotel appropriate for a king or queen? This is the destination for you — Napoleon Bonaparte III's boyhood house, former French Emperor. The marble staircase is an architectural wonder, as are the coffered ceilings and silky damask walls.

THE BEST BARS

People are having a great time in Rome since Romulus and Remus chose to settle here, so thirsty tourists can expect some truly fantastic times when it comes to the top bars in Rome. The hackneyed cliché of 'traditional but contemporary' is alive and well here, with old-school enotecas (wine bars) coexisting alongside forward-thinking mixologists and craft beer taprooms. To say the least, the bar scene in Rome is growing. Following are the best Roman bars:

  • Il Goccetto

  • Salotto 42

  • Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà

  • Stravinskij Bar

  • Bar San Calisto

  • Drink Kong

  • The Jerry Thomas Project

  • Terrazza Borromini

  • Bar del Fico

  • Litro

THE BEST BEACHES NEAR ROME

With all of its historical and cultural charms, most visitors to Rome do not come for the beaches. However, after a few days of touring in the city's scorching summer heat, it's nice to know that there are convenient areas nearby to cool down in the water. These are the best beaches near Rome:

  • Fregene

  • Santa Severa.

  • Sabaudia

  • Lido di Ostia

  • Terracina

  • Gaeta

  • Castel Porziano

Travel Update | What you need to know

Some good news…

With hospital admissions falling across the nation and 48.5 million Britons getting fully vaccinated, many experts are now saying that we may finally be nearing the end of the pandemic. The end is finally in sight.

And there is more good news.

The UK government is set to remove all travel testing requirements for fully vaccinated people next Friday, making it even easier for people to travel abroad.

For those of you who have not been able to travel abroad over the past two years, this is probably music to your ears. After two years of being cooped up inside, you are probably desperate to get away and enjoy some much-needed sunshine.

Here is a rundown of the new rules set to be implemented by the UK Government:

  • From 4 am on 11th February, all testing requirements will be removed from eligible fully vaccinated arrivals with only a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) now required.

  • Arrivals who are not recognised as fully vaccinated will only need to take a pre-departure test and a PCR test on or the day before day 2 after they arrive in the UK.

  • Children aged 12 to 15 in England will now be able to prove their vaccination status or proof of prior infection via a digital NHS COVID Pass from the 3rd of February for outbound travel, allowing families to travel abroad for the February half term.

Before you start packing your flip flops and bikinis, there are a couple of other things you should know.

Check foreign travel advice.

It is essential that before booking any flights or accommodation, you check foreign travel advice for the country you want to visit.

You can find all the necessary information on the UK Foreign Office website for entry requirements. This will tell you:

  • the country will allow people to enter from the UK

  • you will need to show proof of vaccination status or proof of a negative COVID-19 test

  • you will need to quarantine on arrival

It is important to note that these requirements can change very quickly.

Arrange any covid-19 tests.

Whilst you won’t need a covid test to enter the UK from February the 11th, this may not be the case elsewhere.

You will need to check ahead to check if the country you plan on visiting requires you to take a test or not.

You cannot use an NHS test for this and must use a private test provider. It is essential that you do this before you depart, otherwise, you will not be allowed to enter the country.

Find out how you can use the NHS Covid Pass

Some countries require proof of vaccination status before you can enter so we suggest you find out how to use the NHS Covid Pass to prove your vaccination status abroad.

Face masks.

In England, there is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face-covering – although it is still recommended to wear a face mask in crowded places and enclosed spaces, so we suggest you wear them at the airport and when on the plane.

In Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland face masks must continue to be worn on transport, in shops and hospitality venues, unless you are sitting down to eat or drink.
When wearing a face covering:

  • It is important to wash or sanitise your hands before and after touching your face covering.

  • Use a waste bin to dispose of it – you should not put face coverings in a recycling bin or drop them as litter.

  • Be mindful that a face covering may inhibit communication with people who rely on lip reading, facial expressions and clear sound.

Are you ready to travel?

Once you have done your research and are up to date with everything you need to do, you can book your flights and pack your bags.

Just don’t forget your sunscreen.

Astute Destinations – Barcelona

Barcelona, the name of this historic Catalan city, is nearly as lovely as the seaside metropolis itself.

Ciudad Condal (formerly the seat of the Count of Barcelona), the destination, stays with everybody who walks through the amazing architecture and the breezy plaças.

Besides the dazzling Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona, located in northern Spain, is a vibrant melting pot of culture, with world-renowned food, famous art, music, and more.

If you visit this sunny city, you'll spend your days visiting the vibrant barrios, walking along the beach, strolling through luscious green areas, and finding gem after gem—some well-known, like Park Güell or Camp Nou, and others hidden, like Santa Caterina.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Visit Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic) is Barcelona's oldest area. It is home to many of the city's finest attractions, including the Cathedral of Barcelona and a scattering of Roman ruins. Yes, it will be crowded, but getting lost in its twisting medieval alleyways and lanes is still one of the great pleasures of visiting Barcelona.

Wander Gaudi’s Architecture

Gaudi is Barcelona's most renowned architect, and his work can be seen all around the city. His unique style of fusing Gothic and Art Nouveau is distinctive and well-known across the globe. Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà are the highlights.

Enjoy the Beach

Barceloneta Beach is a long stretch of beach that is a short walk from the city centre and has several eateries along the promenade. You'll find some calmer beaches if you stroll farther down the coast (I recommend Nova Icaria and St. Pol de Mar).

THE BEST BEACHES

Here are the 8 Best Beaches in Barcelona:

  • Bogatell Beach

  • Barceloneta Beach

  • Nova Icària

  • Mar Bella

  • Sant Sebastià

  • Nova Mar Bella

  • Somorrostro

  • Llevant

WHAT TO EAT

Barcelona boasts a wide range of cuisine alternatives to suit any budget. In reality, they have one of the best restaurants and pubs per capita in Europe. However, do your homework before you arrive, or you'll likely wind yourself overpaying for poor-quality meals.

Also, keep in mind that lunch is often the largest meal of the day, and most people don't eat supper until about 10 p.m., so plan accordingly.

TAPAS, AND SEAFOOD PAELLA

Tapas are popular in Spain. Tapas are generally little servings of single foods designed to be snacked on at bars/restaurants, but many people build a meal out of trying several types of tapas.

Because Barcelona is situated on the shore, seafood paella (and seafood in general) is particularly popular.

WHERE TO STAY?

Casa Bonay

Casa Bonay's bread and butter are building basic, ecological places that instill in visitors a feeling of local culture and community. With plenty of greenery and a simple, stylish interior design (created in collaboration with local designers), the bright and airy mood of this 19th-century house-turned-hotel reflects that of the city itself.

Cotton House Hotel (Eixample)

The hotel has an attractive library, a restaurant and cocktail bar, a terrace, and a rooftop pool, in addition to 83 pleasant rooms. Check out the property's one-of-a-kind spiral staircase, erected in 1957 and is the only one of its types in Europe.

El Palauet Barcelona

These six exquisite suites (each with two bedrooms) exemplify Spanish beauty in a hotel setting. El Palauet is situated in Casa Bonaventura Ferrer, the renowned modernist edifice created by Pere Falqués I Urp in 1906 and is strategically located along with the famed tourist and commercial centre Passeig de Gràcia.

Hotel 1898

Hotel 1898 is located directly along the tree-lined pedestrian section of La Rambla. The comfortable rooms vary from classic to premium, and there are two levels of tastefully outfitted suite choices.

THE BEST BARS

If there's one thing Barcelona has in plenty, it’s bars. Every neighbourhood in the city has so much to offer that picking where to meet for a drink might be difficult. We've compiled a list of the greatest bars in Barcelona to help you decide whether you like wine, beer, vermouth, or a cocktail.

  • CocoVail Beer Hall

  • Dry Martini

  • Vai Moana

  • Paradiso

  • El Diset

  • Attic Terrace at Ayre Hotel Rosellón

  • Dr Stravinsky

  • Bar Marsella

  • Harlem Jazz Club

  • El Bosc de Les Fades

Things to Do:

WANDER THROUGH THE ALHAMBRA

You may spend hours roaming around the Alhambra grounds and the different garden sections. It’s like you have travelled back in time or to a distant exotic and unknown location.

LISTEN TO MAGICAL FLAMENCO MUSIC

In Granada, you can hear the passion in every word, strum, and stride of flamenco. A Flamenco performance is about more than just the beautiful dance skill; it's about the song's lyrics, the astonishing range of the singer's voice, the traditional guitar playing, and the appreciative clapping and stomping.

A Place to stay:

Alhambra Palace Hotel

The Hotel Alhambra Palace is located in the historical, tourist city of Granada, Spain, near the University of Granada—a culturally rich, metropolitan setting in Spain's most visited region.

Hotel Alhambra Palace is ideal for business and leisure travellers due to its great location, useful services, and affordable costs. It has a sleekly contemporary but traditional look and several on-site conveniences to please even the weariest of travellers. Modern conveniences such as a flat-panel TV with premium cable channels, a direct-dial telephone, an air conditioner with temperature control, and free WiFi keep visitors engaged, connected, and delighted.

Positano: The Pearl of Italy

It would be a near-impossible task to find a site on the Amalfi Coast that isn't charming, but Positano is a village that may be the most romantic of them. This elegant coastal town combines pastel-coloured houses that ooze down the hillside, meandering alleys, lovely beaches, and startlingly blue waters, not to mention simply stunning sunsets and luxury Mediterranean resorts.

Positano is one of those places that was tailor-made for a romantic getaway, with a skyline that still appears the same as it did a century ago due to strict building restrictions that have kept contemporary development out. What more do you need when there is nothing else to do besides tour the local markets and stores, dine, spend time on the beach, and take in the views?

Things to Do:

SPEND A DAY ON THE BEACH

A day at the beach on a sunbed is an excellent way to spend quality time with your lover. Sitting in the Italian sun with your sweetheart and a refreshing drink is quite romantic, and the breathtaking vistas of this seaside splendour add to the romance.

TAKE A BOAT RIDE

Boat rides are a terrific way to appreciate the sights of Positano, and they also happen to be a romantic excursion. This is also one of the greatest ways to view the hamlet in all of its majesties. The charming coloured cottages, the massive mountains in the backdrop, and even the beach with colourful umbrellas can be seen from the water. The views from the sea are as picturesque as they get.

Other things to consider: Visit the local markets and marvel at the ancient but lovely architecture.

A Place to stay:

COVO DEI SARACENI

The magnificent position of Covo del saraceni provides visitors with unrivalled views of Italy's stunning Amalfi coast, which you may appreciate from the private patio.

This sea front property is perfectly located in the centre of Positano; just steps from the beach, in the core of Positano’s lively shopping area, enjoys a elite location for those who wish to experience the surroundings of the bay by day or by night.

How to Get There: Vietri Sul Mare, the final town on the coast before Salerno, may be reached by rail. To get to Sorrento from Naples, take the local train, then take a bus or a boat to the hamlet.

Astute Destinations Santorini

Astute Destinations Santorini

Santorini is an island in the Cyclades group. On a Greece holiday, it is an island that you may imagine as the classic Greek island, with its white-washed homes, churches, and blue sky. This stunning island was built by a massive volcanic eruption that created a vast lagoon in the island's centre. As a result, it is bordered on three sides by sheer cliffs. It still boasts an active volcano, the world's only one with a crater in the sea. The most recent major eruption happened 3,600 years ago.

Santorini is known as a romantic island due to its crystal-clear seas located on the lip of a volcano in the midst of the sea, as well as its spectacular sunsets.

With the desire to escape reality stronger than ever, Santorini, one of the most popular Cycladic islands for both visitors and residents alike, seems to be the light at the end of the tunnel. And how could it not be, given its volcanic geomorphology, the deep blue seas of its beaches, and the hospitable residents who believe they must ensure you have a good time on their island?

Santorini is a group of three islands:

  • Thera

  • Thirassia

  • Aspronissi

These used to be one, but the land separated after a massive volcanic eruption, forming the well-known and beloved Caldera. As magical as it is, Santorini has long been associated with the legend of the "lost" city of Atlantis, becoming a test subject for scientists all over the world.

Things to see and do

Fira, Santorini’s capital, is one of the best places to see on the island. During your trip to Santorini, you certainly want to see the renowned white and blue houses that are scattered across the island, wander the narrow alleys that are full of local vendors and boutiques, luxury hotels with infinity pools, and admire magnificent views of the caldera.

What to eat

In terms of food, Santorini is famous for its delicious food. And it never disappoints.

Try the smaller restaurants in the side streets for a more authentic experience, a place full of locals is a sure sign the food is up to Greece standards! Moussaka is the local speciality, and absolutely should not be missed out on. Spanakopita (Spinach pie) is another dish that you should definitely try! But every dish in Santorini is worth the try and you certainly won’t regret it.

Where to stay?

There are plenty of hotels scattered throughout the island, all within walking distance of the best sights. We suggest Cavo Tagoo Santorini a 5* hotel with an incredible view. With just 13 rooms & suites, each room are stylish, unique and beautifully designed. The luxury room’s offer a beautiful view of the sea, so you will never miss a Santorini sunset whilst you unwind after a full day of exploring Santorini.

The Three Valleys Vs Espace Killy

France is well-known for its vast ski areas, which link the hills above many neighbouring villages. The importance of the Three Valleys and the Espace Killy cannot be overstated. These two ski regions are home to some of the world's most well-known ski resorts.

But how do two of the world's largest and most well-known resorts compare on certain crucial factors when it comes to your vacation?

We analysed the data for the three valleys (Briodes les Bains, Courchevel, Les Menuires/Reberty, Meribel, and Val Thorns) and 'the Area Formerly Known as Espace Killy' - Tignes and Val d'Isere.

Resorts Overview

The Three Valleys Ski Resort

The Three Valleys

The Three Valleys is the world's largest ski domain. Hundreds of kilometres of slopes, 80 per cent of which are at 1800 metres or above, are accessible thanks to the superb ski lift network. The Three Valleys are recognised for their limitless ski routes that cater to skiers of all abilities. Explore Val Thorens, Meribel, Les Menuires, and Courchevel by skiing from one Club Med Ski Resort to the next.

Important details:

  • Between 1300 and 3200 metres

  • Approximately 600 kilometres of slopes: 35 black, 110 red, 104 blue, and 68 green.

  • A total of four snow parks

  • 120 kilometres of cross-country skiing

Espace Killy Ski Area

Espace Killy | Astute Aviation | Private Jet Charter

Escape Killy

With 300km of ski slopes and 44km of cross-country skiing, the Espace Killy ski region, named after the great French champion "Jean-Claude Killy," who learned to ski here, provides perfect conditions for novices to experienced skiers according to their needs. The Espace Killy Ski Area, which combines Val d'Isere and Tignes, is regarded as one of the best ski regions in the world.

Important details:

  • Between 1550 and 3920 metres

  • 300 kilometres of slopes: 26 black, 41 red, 67 blue, and 20 green.

  • 2 Ski Resorts

  • 44 kilometres of CrossCountry

Beginner Vs Advanced Skiers

Which one is best for beginner skiers?

Val d'Isere offers a free lift for beginners on the nursery slopes near the town centre. Meanwhile, Tignes boasts good nursery slopes in its main settlements, Val Claret and Le Lac. Both resorts are teeming with excellent instructors and have about 30 ski schools between them.

Neither, however, can compete with Courchevel. Two of its towns, 1850 and 1650, have not just fantastic ski schools and easy-peasy starting slopes but also plenty of confidence-boosting terrains to which you can move, so newbies don't feel stuck in a knock-kneed ghetto of no-hoperdom for the whole week.

Which one is best for advanced skiers?

The 3V has several jaw-dropping inbound obstacles for advanced skiers, most notably the chutes off the top of the Saulire into Courchevel and Meribel, as well as the Grand Couloir and the Couloir Tournier. These are tough routes: highly steep, sometimes mogulled, and a humbling experience even for those who regularly ski blacks.

Instead, we'd choose what many consider to be the best steep groomed piste in the Alps: Le Face, which runs from the Rocher de Bellevarde down into Val d'Isere. It's still a challenge, but more importantly, it's a route that most expert skiers will want to return to and perform again and again - rather than something to check off before retiring quietly to the next lavatory.

How to Get to Les 3 Vallées

You can fly to Les 3 Valleys from four airports near each resort: Geneva, Lyon, Chambéry, and Grenoble.

Several airlines offer flights to the major Alpine airports during the winter season. After landing at one of the four airports closest to Les 3 Vallées, you have a few options:

Taking the bus. From the airport, take a bus. Regular bus transfers connect the airports and the resorts.

Taking the bus or a taxi. Travel by train or bus to Moûtiers and then by bus or taxi to the resorts. To save time in Moûtiers, we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance!

The Best Way to Get to Val D'isere

It is extremely simple to get to Val d'Isere from anywhere globally because the ski area is only 225 kilometres from Geneva International Airport, Switzerland's second-largest airport (about 3 hours on a good day).

How helicopter friendly is each resort?

Helicopter Transfers to Courchevel

Helicopter Transfers to Courchevel

A private helicopter transfer takes you in the stunning snowscape of the Three Valleys (Les Trois Vallées). The helicopters land at Courchevel Airport, located at an elevation of over 2000 metres. Landing at this airport is an unforgettable experience because it has only one runway 535 metres long by 40 metres wide and has a gradient of 18.5 per cent. The views here are some of the most spectacular of the Three Valleys due to its location on the mountain's edge.

Courchevel Airport is only open to small private planes and helicopters due to its unique characteristics and landing here is risk-free. The airport is well-known worldwide as the location for some scenes in the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" were shot here.

Panoramic helicopter flight

Christian Blugeon, recently named a Knight of the Legion of Honour for his passion and professionalism (over 29,000 flying hours under his belt), accepts orders to fly over the most beautiful Alps peaks.

Take off from the resort's new helipad at the base of Val Thorens' slopes.

3 Valleys Flight: A bird's-eye view of the world's largest ski area.

Flights lasting 15 to 20 minutes cost €1,300. (1–5 people.)

Helicopter Transfers to Escape Kelly

You can fly into and out of Tignes by private or shared helicopter. You may take specialized airport transfers by helicopter to and from all airports and ski resorts. Many firms collaborate with local helicopter operators to provide their clients with the most affordable helicopter transfer for the type of helicopter they have ultimately decided to travel in.

The Best Nightlife

Val d'Isere boasts a fantastic nightlife culture, with something happening every night of the week, from apres-ski until the early hours of the morning.

Apres-ski

La Folie Douce is a famed piste-side apres-ski pub that opens early afternoon. Around 15:00, the DJ begins his set and gets the event going with professional singers and dancers. Almost every day, the vast outdoor decking area is packed with visitors and seasonaires alike, who party until the sun sets over the mountain top.

Cocorico, situated right off the Rond Point roundabout under the Solaise bubble lift, is Val d'Isere's counterpart to La Folie Douce. It, too, has a huge outdoor patio and becomes crowded from 15:00, with live music starting at 16:00 and a DJ spinning from 18:00 to 20:00.

If you're looking for a more upscale après ski experience, visit Les Barmes de l'Ours Bar, situated close to the Face slope. The open fire, piano music, and a large assortment of exquisite wines, beers, and spirits are available here. Bar M at the Tsanteleina Hotel is the place to go for drinks. Try the Le Samovar Bar in La Daille, where you can relax by the fire or on the patio and reminisce about your day on the slopes.

Late nights

If you want to stay out late, Val d'Isere offers various pubs and clubs open till the early hours of the morning. You'll also notice that most hotel bars will stay open as long as all guests are having a good time.

Victors, Pacific, The Fall Line, Café Face, Moris Pub, and Saloon are among the bars that stay until 01:30 a.m.

The Underground Cafe and Le Petit Danois remain open until 2:00 a.m.

Doudoune Club, which is open from 23:00 to 05:00, boasts excellent DJs (Pete Tong, Danny Howard, to name a few) and frequent events throughout the season. Dick's Tea Bar is a Val d'Isere staple and a great place to go late at night. The music is usually terrific, with outstanding resident DJs and guest performances, and keeps the regular crowd coming back week after week. It is open till 4:00 p.m. If you still have the energy, you may visit Le Graal club and Krystal nightclub.

Doudoune Club | Astute Private Jet Charter

Doudoune Club

The best among the others

The Moris Pub's Pub Quiz followed by Karaoke is a terrific night for something a bit different. Every week, from Monday through Saturday, they offer live music.

Many of the bars feature Happy Hours when drinks are half price; Victors has two for one cocktail every night from 21:00 - 23:00, and they have some wonderful combinations to taste.

The Best Winter Resorts in Europe

The Best Winter Resorts in Europe

Europe features the world's best snowsports locations, with charming villages, five-star chalet hotels, and specialised routes for all skill levels.

Are you going skiing for the first time? We've compiled the seven most incredible ski resorts for all levels of skiers, whether you're a first-time skier or prefer alternative amusement.

Zermatt, Switzerland

The car-free resort of Zermatt, with the Matterhorn standing bigger than life in the backdrop, has a very peaceful vibe. During the day, enjoy trendy boutique shopping, tandem paragliding, snowshoeing, ice climbing, ice skating, ice hockey, and sledging, including the Gornergrat toboggan run, which is regarded as one of the best in the Alps. After everything is said and done, look forward to enjoying mulled red wine at the Igloo Bar, nearly entirely made of ice.

There's a nostalgic sense about car-free Zermatt, which began as a base for early Matterhorn climbing excursions — and is rather proud of it. Ascents aren't as uncommon these days, and you don't need to carry rope and crampons to reach the summit, as the tallest cable car in Europe whisks you up the Klein Matterhorn to a panorama stretching for 100 kilometres.

Where to stay: With its luxurious spa, spacious rooms, and stunning views, the centrally situated, contemporary Hotel Firefly is a more-than-comfortable choice. CERVO Mountain Resort, perched just above the town, includes a heated pool and one of Zermatt's best spas.

Hotel Firefly, Zermett

Courchevel, France

Courchevel is the biggest and most well-known of the numerous interconnected ski resorts known as Les Trois Vallées (Three Valleys), which comprise Europe's largest ski domain. In addition to the 150 kilometres of alpine lines accessible through Courchevel's 60 lifts, these connect to a total of 600 kilometres of linked ski routes, as well as four glaciers. The whole region is divided into ten peaks with elevations exceeding 2,500 metres.

Courchevel, France

Add to these outstanding numbers that the resorts get four metres of snow each year and have state-of-the-art grooming to maintain their runs in peak shape. Courchevel will host the Alpine Ski World Cup slalom, downhill, Super G, and parallel events for both men and women in late March 2022.

Where to stay: There are 15 five-star hotels in France, including the exceedingly magnificent L'Apogée Courchevel, situated in Courchevel 1850. Cheval Blanc Courchevel is the pinnacle of ski-in/ski-out luxury (and one of the Readers' Choice Awards 50 Best Resorts of 2021), with a slope-side patio serving a meal created by Michelin-starred chef Yannik Alléno.

Cheval Blanc Courchevel, France

Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

Cortina d'Ampezzo is nestled amid the highest peaks of the Dolomites. Italy's most advanced ski town is easily connected to Dolomiti Superski, a network of 12 ski resorts that operate under a single pass. If Cortina d'Ampezzo's straightforward ticket system and 75 miles of terrain aren't enough to impress you, maybe the resort's selection as the 2026 Winter Olympics host will.

Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

Where to stay: Courtesy Hotel Cristallo a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, is an opulent Belle Epoque hotel approximately a mile from the gondola. Rooms with hand-painted walls and parquet floors provide just the appropriate amount of old-world charm without being ostentatious, while the piano bar offers some lively entertainment. Hotel de Len is a little newcomer with 23 rooms and an underground speakeasy.

Hotel Cristallo a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Italy

St. Moritz, Switzerland

The fact that St. Moritz has held several global ski championships should tell you something about this legendary resort: this is world-class skiing. The Winter Olympics were hosted here in 1928 and 1948, and events at its Olympic ski jump may still be seen today.

St Moritz, Switzerland

There is also ample ski terrain for non-Olympians. St. Moritz is recognised for its lengthy intermediate runs and other great intermediate terrains, and with over 20 lifts to select from, there are slopes and pistes for all ability levels. Trails from the 2,486-meter village of Corviglia feature beautiful Alpine vistas and are accessible from town by the Corviglia Funicular.

Where to stay: The iconic Badrutt's Palace Hotel, which has been pampering A-listers since 1896, or the freshly restored Kulm Hotel—one of our Gold List favourites—can't go wrong.

Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, St Moritz. Switzerland

Courmayeur, Italy

Courmayeur, Italy, is located on the other side of Mont Blanc from Chamonix. It has spectacular views of Mont Blanc and is supposed to be a bit sunnier than the French side of the mountain. Aside from skiers, visitors rush to this resort town to ride the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car, which offers views of the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa and enjoy Michelin-starred dining and a busy après-ski scene.

Courmayeur, Italy

Where to stay: The Auberge de la Maison embodies Alpine charm. The majority of the rooms enjoy spectacular views of Mont Blanc, and the spa offers unique Alpine treatments like a hay bio-sauna.

Auberge de la Maison, Italy

St. Anton, Austria

Serious skiers go to Austria's Arlberg area for no-nonsense high-challenge skiing, which they can find on St. Anton's more than a dozen super-expert lines. The most difficult is the 10-kilometre Valluga-St. Anton route, which has a 1,347-meter height difference.

St. Anton, Austria

However, even the red-marked pistes at this resort are much more challenging than those in other Alpine resorts. St. Anton is particularly well-known for its about 200 off-piste alternatives for expert skiers (many of which need a guide) and its mega-moguls, particularly on Schindler Kar.

Recently installed lifts connect St. Anton to ski pistes on the opposite side of the Flexen Pass, connecting it to the Arlberg's top resorts: Lech, St. Christoph, Zürs, Stuben, and others, for a total of 340 kilometres of pistes. All of this is covered in the regional Arlberg lift pass.

Where to stay: The premium Hotel Tannenhof boasts just seven suites and an award-winning restaurant. The Raffls Tyrol Hotel is a more economical alternative in the centre of town.

Gstaad (Switzerland)

This is one of Europe's most classic winter getaways, thanks to its traffic-free town centre, a promenade lined with luxury retailers, and fairy-tale Swiss architecture. The entrances to the numerous ski slopes are adorned with charming chalet villages. Gstaad is accessible to all skiers thanks to a variety of excellent slopes, while gourmands relish Michelin-starred restaurants such as the Sommet.

Gstaad, Switzerland

Where to stay: The Alpina Gstaad, built of wood rescued from ancient farmhouses and locally quarried limestone, has become a celebrity favourite, with two pools, a Six Senses Spa, and a movie theatre.

Will My Europe Holiday Go Ahead?

Will My Europe Holiday Go Ahead?

Travel to Europe this Christmas has been thrown into question as nations like Austria and the Netherlands have implemented additional lockdowns, and instances of the new Omicron type have been discovered in several countries. But how may this affect your holiday? Here's what you should know.

Omicron: Will my European holiday go ahead?

Before you go, you should be informed that certain nations have implemented new internal restrictions. Austria has entered a new state of emergency, with residents instructed to leave their homes only for necessary activities. The Netherlands has also imposed three weeks of limitations on stores, sports, and catering and recommended individuals to work from home. Germany is also set to suffer similar limitations. German Health Minister Jens Spahn declared bluntly: 'Probably by the end of winter, more or less everyone in Germany will be vaccinated, healed, or dead.'

Countries are strengthening their restrictions on incoming travel due to the appearance of the Omicron variant – B.1.1.529. After instances of the new type were detected, Switzerland put the UK on its red list, requiring people entering from the UK to submit a negative Covid-19 test and be quarantined for ten days. Travellers visiting Portugal must also provide confirmation of a negative test, and Spain has tightened its requirements to guarantee that anybody entering the country is completely vaccinated.

For the time being, however, no European nations have been added to the UK's red list, so people wanting to travel for Christmas should be allowed to do so as long as they have had the required immunizations or tests. Most European countries need confirmation of vaccinations for travel, and any further restrictions are likely to hit the unvaccinated first.

Which Countries in Europe Are Going to Lockdown?

Beginning Monday, Austria will be the first Western European country to reimpose a statewide lockdown. Germany is cracking down on unvaccinated persons and is no longer ruling out stricter measures. While existing regulations range from mask requirements in Spain to a partial shutdown in the Netherlands, the trend is toward stricter controls as Europe deals with a severe recurrence of the coronavirus pandemic.

What European Countries Are Introducing Restrictions & Rules?

France was among the first to halt all flights from the seven African nations. At the same time, it was declared that anybody who had previously lived in one of the seven areas would be subject to stringent entrance requirements.

Denmark imposes an entry ban on those travelling to and from the Southern African region.

Following the Commission's advice, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended everyone on November 26 avoid travelling to Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

Slovenia & Hungary has introduced quarantine requirements for those travelling from omicron-affected areas.

Why is this so tricky?

Because the risk of COVID varies so much across nations, rules will necessarily be complicated.
While Covid-19 provisions remain in place, the government has issued a charter that "clearly spells forth consumer rights and obligations when purchasing travel."

Given the circumstances, it expects travel operators to be "flexible" with consumers, and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has advised package holiday providers that refund laws must be followed.

How to Travel during the 4th wave?

Despite continued media fears about new COVID waves, travel restrictions have only undergone minor changes, so it’s unlikely you’ll need to worry about limitations changing between now and the New Year! Most changes include increased testing requirements for pre-departure and post-arrival, and countries being stricter on your vaccination status to be able to enter.

When travelling, Here's What You Should Know

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the necessity (or desire) to fly and travel both internationally and domestically is increasing for many people. Some haven’t seen relatives in two years, and many who have not been able to holiday abroad are finally taking the opportunity to do so.

There's no avoiding the reality that any commercial flight will put you into close contact with a large number of other individuals and a range of routinely touched surfaces - both at the airport and on the aircraft. And, given what we know about COVID-19, such as that someone may be ill and not realize it, boarding a busy aircraft these days can be a little nerve-racking.

  • Private Jet Charter is Better for Travelling Abroad

By travelling privately, you immediately eliminate the risk from other passengers who you don’t know. The only people you share the cabin with are your own group. You also have fewer crew on board who will be undergoing frequent testing, helping reduce your overall exposure to people.

  • Avoid the Airport Crowds

Flying by private jet also means that you don’t travel through the main terminal, where it’s near enough inevitable that you are in close proximity to a huge number of people.

  • High Levels of Hygiene Onboard

Cleaning measures on a private jet are equally strict, and the cabin will always be deep cleaned and fumigated between flights (which isn’t always possible if a commercial airline has a quick turnaround.
